The Early Years
In the middle of World War II, Axel and Bengt Benzler were hit by a stroke of genius. Sweden lacked a company that could offer complete transmission programmes and also assist its customers in choosing the right components. It was exactly what happened in April 1944 when Benzler & Co was founded. From that moment Benzler & Co started to serve the market with complete drive units, chains and rubber conveyor belts. The company grew rapidly and in 1948 the turnover was SEK 800.000. On the May 15, 1944 the first branch was opened in Malmö.

1954 - 1964
"The Helical gear is a timeless gear type, and the combination with belt drive makes it unbeatable in many senses", said Bengt Benzler. The Sala Gear as it was named, was an immediate success and has continued to be one of the cornerstones at Benzlers. The demand for the Benzler Sala Gear increased so much that it was launched outside Sweden.

1965 - 1974
Benzlers developed their first Screw Jack. The main office in Stockholm was transferred into a new production and warehouse plant in Norrköping. Benzler & Co also acquired Mevabo, a worm gear manufacturing company. This made Benzler & Co an established, leading manufacturer and supplier of industrial gears world-wide. In the course of the 70´s Benzler & Co expanded rapidly. The targets for an expansion on the hollow shaft gear market were set up. In 1978 the founder Bengt Benzler retired from the company management. The Sala Gear-factory was acquired, thereby increasing the production at the same time as the foundation for international expansion was laid.

1975 - 1989
A major Swedish manufacturer of worm gears was acquired, thereby making Benzler & Co the market leader in that field. A big acquisition was made when Benzler & Co bought ASEA´s manufacturing unit for light and medium size helical gears in Helsingborg which also included a 12.000 sq.m. building now housing Benzler´s head-office.

1990 - 2000
| The sales of open transmission components was put in a separate company. This company retained the original concept of Benzler & Co.The parent company with development, production and other type of sales was named AB Benzlers. AB Benzlers expanded its operations into 14 countries with a wide base of agent and distributors world-wide. AB Benzlers was acquired by Textron.
